Today's Friday Five is not about Halloween because, well...that is just too predictable for today. So, today's Friday Five is about something else:

1. Do you remember your first best friend? Who was it? Yes, Her name was Nikki.

2. Are you still in touch with this person? Every now and then we'll email each other.

3. Do you have a current close friend? Yes.

4. How did you become friends with this person? With my first best friend, we met through a pen pal service for kids. It was when we were in 5th grade I believe.

5. Is there a friend from your past that you wish you were still in contact with? Why? Yes. Many of them. I just miss them all and I wonder what they are like now.

Happy Halloween everyone!! I will at least mention the holiday in this entry since afterall, it is in fact Halloween. :D

*Nervous Cough*

There is this odd lady who keeps sitting next to me during break. What is so odd about this? Let's see. I take break in this huge break room where there is at least a dozen tables. When I take break there is usually lots of seats open at other tables besides mine. At times there are even empty tables! But every since yesterday, this lady that I have seen around before but just never talked to, decides to sit literally right next to me (two feet away) to eat her lunch. Again, I will re-interate that there are two or three empty tables in this room so it is not as if this lady has no choice here. Not just that, but the table I was sitting at, there were countless empty chairs around it. Why she felt the need to sit in a chair not three feet away from me is a mystery.

Well, she did it again today. This time she sat across from me. Here are my random thoughts on this:

On one hand, who am I to complain behind this lady's back? She has every right to sit where she wants to. Besides she looks nice enough.

Maybe she is lonely and is desperatly looking for someone to talk to. So she takes "drastic" action in hopes that I say something to her to start a convo up. The reason I haven't said anything to her is because I am very guarded with people I befriend. Especially people at work. I wouldn't ignore her if she said something to me, I just wouldn't be the person to start the conversation.

I am sounding like a pretentious bitch right now. I don't mean to be. I'm just leary about strangers and even more leary about strangers who do things that are out of the "social norm".

Today I managed to make eye contact with her and smile. At least I am acknowledging her presence. I am hoping she opens up more.

I wonder how long this is gonna go on. It is just weird that a total stranger would decide to sit that close to me and then not say anything.

I'm sure she is a sweet lady. She seems very shy. But then again, she could be a psycho winch too. This close to Halloween, I'm not taking any chances. *hee hee*

Hotter Than Hell

I am such a dork. Thinking it was going to be cold today, I wore a thick pullover with NO SHIRT underneath. Now I am sweating to death in this thing and I have no shirt for me to be able to take this thing off.

It is cool outside with a nice breeze, but indoors it is hot. What the heck was I thinking?

Going Back To School!

Saturday was relaxing and fun. Hubby and I hosted a party and had great fun hanging out with our friends. We ate, talked and drank for a few hours. It was nice!

On Friday evening, I decided that I wanted to go back to school to finish my degree. My problem is that it will take too much out of me to have to drive to campus and to work everyday. I would need to have a split shift here at work and also would be here longer to make up the time I was gone. I would be working 40+ hours a week plus going to class and study groups. I know that is the reality of thousands of college students, but I already know that I would burn out much quicker than most people if I did all that. So I need a way to earn my degree without having to leave my house. The solution? Enroll in an accredited university online and complete my degree in my own home in my own time.

My mom is an education counselor so I called her up and she told me that the biggest, oldest, and BEST place to get my undergraduate degree is University of Phoenix ! I have already filled out their questionaire online and will need to call them to answer some questions to make sure I qualify. Then I plan to get my financial aide info started so that I can jump into the Fall 04 semester. I hope most of my credits rollover so that I don't have to start over again. But if so, then that's fine.

The good thing is that it will be a BS (Bachelor of Science) degree instead of a BA (Bachelor of Arts). Since BA requires foreign language classes. BS does not. That is really the main difference in the two.

As for my major, I do not know yet. I was majoring in Political Science, but since U of P does not offer that for an online degree program, I will either major in Criminal Justice or Business of some sort.

I am really excited! I can finally be done with this and move on with my life. YAY!!

Bathroom Humor (For a good time, call 555-PISS)

What is it about bathrooms at work that cause people to get all shy and uncomfortable and weird? I've noticed one of the most uncomfortable feelings is standing right next to a co-worker while washing your hands. There is always that glance and then both parties quickly look down at their hands while they wash and they hardly ever make eye contact until they leave. Then once they leave, everything is back to normal and they talk and joke and exchange plesantries again. Is it something about going to the bathroom that makes people embarrassed or nervous? This should be a case study for all the wanna-be psychiatrists out there. Hehehe

I've also been there while having a conversation with a good friend/co-worker at the sinks. Everyone who walks in looks startled at first and then seems very uncomfortable as we stand there talking. I feel as if I broke a law by standing there talking. :D

Twice I've walked into the bathroom at work to see someone just standing in the stall doing NOTHING! Yes the stall door was shut, but I can see their feet and you can tell when someone is standing versus someone sitting. This person was standing facing the wall and just standing there! One time it really freaked me out because they were standing when I walked in and then after I did my business, washed my hands, dried my hands and walked out, they were STILL STANDING THERE! I am soooo curious as to what this person was up to. I mean they were standing like a statue.

Another odd thing I heard in my workplace bathroom one time is that someone kept taking toilet paper. I walk in hearing someone in a stall unrolling the toilet paper and it kept going and going and going. They only stopped once I got to the sink after doing my business. I often wondered how much crap it would take in order to need to use the whole entire roll of tp!! That or the person was stealing tp from work. *audible gasp*

The sickest thing I have seen in my work bathroom, and I see this daily, are co-workers that either don't wash their hands at all and those who just let a stream of water run over their hands very quickly using NO SOAP. Somehow those people feel that it counts as washing just so some water hits their hands. CLUE PEOPLE: WATER DOES NOT KILL BACTERIA. Might as well save some water and just skip the acting altogether if that's how you're gonna do it.

Lying, Taking, Lying

The shit just won't drop. The sibling I am having this "war" with is really starting to piss me off. I just talked to his girlfriend and it appears, he lied to her about me in order to make her so mad at me that she would stop talking to me and in the meantime he had made me pissed off at her! Well me and his gf just talked and realized he was lying about both of us to the other one! He even went as far as lying to her about my parents!! He had her believing that none of us liked her and that we were all mad at her! Which by the way, was NOT true at all!!! He was purposefully pitting all of us against each other so that his bad actions were overshadowed.

So I called my mom and talked to her about it and in turn, the gf called my mom as well. We all compared notes and we have all figured out that my sibling lied to all of us about all of us in order to get us to not pay attention to what kicked all of this off and that was how badly he treated his gf. I won't get into what he actually did to her, but I will say, it is pretty bad stuff. No excuse for any of it.

When we (his family) told him that though we love him, we will not condone his behavior, he mistook that to mean none of us love him anymore! Moreover, he told me that he never wanted to speak to me again, but yet he turned around and told his gf that we (his family) disowned him!!! WHAT????? None of us said any such thing!!!! I can't tell you how hurtful that is.

I also found out that he has been talking trash about me to his gf even before all of this started! While my husband and I were feeding him, giving him shelter, and helping him out he was talking shit about me!!! I can't tell you how much hearing that hurt me.

Now I am angry. Everyone is angry with him. Lying about and to the very people who care for him and love him is just unacceptable. He was even lying about my mom about the time she was sending him money to help him out!! His own mother! He used her for money and then lied about her to his gf!!

I need to step away. I am making myself angry again.

Scare Me, Scar Me

This weekend was nice a relaxing. Did some OT on Sat and just sat around on Sunday. It was nice.

I do have one complaint about tv programming during the weekend though. Okay. While I am not a huge fan of Halloween (I like it, just don't love it), I am a huge fan of horror shows and movies. So when it is getting close to Halloween, tv programming puts in a lot of horror movies, ghost stories, ect. This year either they have totally forgot Halloween is almost here, or they don't care. I have yet to see one Halloween themed show, one Halloween theme commercial (which is weird), or one Halloween themed anything! I've seen Christmas programming about to start and I've seen Christmas commercials!

I could swear this time last year, TLC and Discovery were already showing show that focused on true stories of ghosts and goblins and the like. Right now, all they are showing are those reality shows based on redecorating homes and making over people!!

Now that Halloween is in two weeks, we'll see if they finally start showing some themed shows. In defiance, I created a Halloween cd filled with the theme songs from movies like "Nightmare on Elm Street", "Friday the 13th", "Scream" "Rocky Horror Picture Show", and shows like "The Twilight Zone". YAY!

In other news, I was listening to this radio show Family Business on This American Life. On that show, there is a story about a family that hasn't spoken to one another for 30 years over a dispute that tore the family business apart. While I hope this thing with me and my sibling doesn't last that long, it is comforting to me knowing that I am not the only person in the world going through this. I wonder if they have support groups for people like me, who are going through a bad family feud. But luckily for me, it is not splitting the family in pieces.

I've neglected to blog for a little bit. Last time I blogged, I never returned to finish the entry (Song of the Day, ect). So I will add more to the last one sometime this weekend. Nothing has been going on today. Just working some overtime right now.

So, I will come back sometime this weekend or early next week to finish the Family Drama entry and to complete this one as well.

There really is no Song of The Day for today since nothing happened except me working overtime. *lol*

Family Drama

Without going into details since family business needs to stay in the family. I am having major conflict with a sibling right now. To break it down, it is about someone doing wrong and then trying to stick someone else (an innocent person), with the "charges". This person refuses to take responsibility for their own actions and instead points the finger at their loved one and yells at the top of their lungs for the world to hear, "You are the problem, not me!". Which of course most intelligent people can see right through this "trickery" of theirs.

This has been going on for the past 4 days and I am sick of it. The bottom line is that I can't change anyone's actions, accusations, or cowardice, but I can change how I communicate with them from now on. And I can change the frequency in which I communicate with them from now on as well. Who wants to hang out with a person who is constantly lying to another person about you and what you said?

I hope we are able to "kiss and makeup" before the holidays. Not just because it is the holidays, but also because it is just not comfortable fighting this way with a family member. I am just heart broken about this whole thing. How I have become the scapegoat because this person has not learned how to take responsibility for their own actions. It's sad and pathetic.

Sleep Walking/Talking

This weekend was quite interesting. Let me give you a brief background of me. I sleepwalk and sleeptalk. I've done it my whole life but now it seems I only do it when I am extremely sleepy before going to bed.

On Saturday, hubby was having a boys night out with a friend of ours so I stayed up very late surfing the web, watching tv and then reading. I didn't get to bed until about 1am or so. I had my cell phone turned on and layed it on the table next to my bed. At about 2:33am I woke up and found myself sitting up on the edge of the bed, cell phone on my ear, talking! I knew it was my husband because he was in the middle of a sentence when I woke up. I asked him where he was and he said he was on his way home. I told him that I would see him soon and then we ended the call. I looked at the clock and it said 2:33am. I looked in my call log on my cell phone to see what time my husband called me and it said he called at 2:30am. That means for 3 minutes I had carried on a convo with my husband while I was sleeping! That REALLY freaked me out because I was asleep when the phone rang and was asleep as I chatted with hubby for 3 minutes. When he came home, I asked him what I said to him when he called. He said the first thing I said to him was "Come home safe". So instead of answering the phone by saying "Hi", I answered it by saying "Come home safe". So I wonder if I saw his name on caller id and knew it was him (even though I was sleeping). I asked him what else I said, but he couldn't recall. We both think he did most of the talking so he didn't notice how odd I was acting. Either way, that freaked me out.

I remember about 4 months ago my husband and my brother went out to play pool one Saturday night and I again stayed up really really late. I went to bed about 1:30am and woke up about 2am. I woke up standing on the staircase just standing there! Both of my cats were on the bottom of the stairs looking up at me with these confused looks on their faces. Only God knows how long I had been standing there! Poor cats. The moral of these stories for me is that I REALLY need to go to bed when I get tired and not when I am extremely exhausted. Luckily I have never hurt myself walking all over the place and even luckier for me, I never left the house! Or worse yet, opened the door to a stranger knocking at 2am. This is why I am so glad I don't live by myself.

Either way, after waking up to being on the cell phone, I almost started crying I was so scared. I mean, it is freaky! It is one thing to sleeptalk to my husband while he is laying in bed next to me, and it is a whole other thing to sleeptalk to someone on the phone! That person could have been ANYONE! Thank goodness it was just my hubby.

Costume Me

I am so mad! I just created a whole entry and poof it is gone even though I saved it. So here it goes, again.

I'm shopping in my local Dollar General and I see these Halloween costumes made by McDonalds! They have a Big Mac, French fries, and even a drink! It is insane. They have them in both adult sizes and child sizes. This is what I call capitalism at it's worst. I just can't make this stuff up, people.

McDonald's French Fries
McDonald's Shake
McDonald's Big Mac

For the first time ever, I bought a decoration for Halloween. Its this really cute cartoon Frankenstein that you inflate and can hang on a door. I haven't decided whether to stick him on my front door or to keep him inside. I have decorations for Christmas, but I have nothing for any other holiday. I may buy more things to put outside for the seasons and holidays. I always like seeing houses all "dressed" up in holiday garb.

I have no idea what to be for Halloween this year. I usually don't spend very much money on a costume every year since the only people that will see it are co-workers and the kids that come to my door trick or treating. I have never gone to a Halloween party and I doubt I will go this year. So spending money on an expensive costume is not very smart for me.

All this talk of Halloween makes me wanna jam to today's...

I Wanna Be Rich!

I'm sitting here watching a show about the Hilton Sisters . Must be nice to be born into so much money that you never have to work a day in your life, ever! Actually, I take that back, it must be very nice!

Maybe I'll be lucky enough to be born into billions in my next life. Just think, you would never have to do anything by yourself; housework, shopping (yes there are actually are Professional Shoppers out there), and anything else you can think of! I've even heard of certain celebs making their personal assistants do things for them as outrageous as shaving the celeb's underarms or driving to the celeb's house at 3am to give him a blanket that was in his hall closet. Must be nice.

Will You Be Rich?

Training Again

I was in training class all day at work. This next two weeks I am scheduled to be in training to learn more duties at work. I love my trainer. She is one of my friends both in work and outside of work. Though now that I think about it, I haven't hung out with her in a very long time. Anyways, she is an awesome person, very lively and all, but I don't care who trains class, it can be very difficult to stay awake. Elton John could be a trainer where I work and people would still be found nodding off at times throughout the day. Luckily, our one hour lunchtime gave me a second wind and I was able to stay alert for the rest of the day.

Okay, I know everyone is sick of hearing about this, but I think it has been decided. We are probably going with the Eclipse as our car of choice. Too much to get into and I am sick of talking about it myself, so maybe I will get more into it one day closer to the time when we actually go to purchase it. Because, who knows, we may not get approved for enough money to have our selection of either of the cars! We might be stuck with a late model Honda or something!

Shop Til I Drop

Last night was nice and laid back. My husband and I went out and rented a couple of movies, Catch Me If You Can and Monty Python's The Life of Brian . The second movie is our favorite comedy to watch.

This morning we did four hours of overtime which wasn't so exciting so I won't go into it here.

This afternoon we decided to go walking downtown and maybe shop some. We went to this store that sell British import goods from videos and souveniers to food. Well, I happened to notice these cookies (biscuits in British English) that I used to eat as a kid when we were stationed in England! I haven't had these cookies since then so it was quite a treat!! I was very excited about getting those. Oh and I got some tea too. Then we walked more and I bought some handmade incense from a cool locally owned store. We went into a used book store and I got a couple of books. Then we walked some more. There was loud music coming from around a corner and a crowd of people gathered so we checked it out.
There were two djs and a group of modern breakdancers! It was really cool to see. I was entertained for about 15 minutes while hubby went off to window shop for a Playstation 2 game next door.

So we decide to go to the grocery store before heading home. We are not Sam's Club shoppers but we've always wanted to one day check it out. Now I think we really will one day since our local grocery store had a whole box (96 rolls) of 2-ply toilet paper on sale for $10!! So here we are. A family of two with 96 rolls of toilet paper!!! I really shouldn't be this excited over toilet paper, but when you have a life like mine, you learn to get excited about some pretty weird things. :D

2. How long have you had it? 3 years

3. What is the coolest feature on your vehicle? The color

4. What is the most annoying thing about your vehicle? It is old and falling apart both inside and outside.

Celica, Oh Celica!

Now we are leaning towards the Toyota Celica.

Here are the reasons we are leaning towards the Celica compared to the Eclipse: The insurance every month is about $50 a less per month, it will be much cheaper to get fixed, the reviews are a little better for the Celica in all areas including safety, the look of the car is really starting to grow on me, and consumer reviews seem to be more positive compared to the Eclipse. Oh and one more thing, the resale value is much better for a Toyota as opposed to the Mitsubishi from what I gather.

So, it looks as though we will be going for a Celica. But it is nice to have another car to fall back on just in case the dealership can't find a Celica in our price range and all that. Needless to say, I am on cloud nine about all of this. I REALLY hope I am able to get one or the other! We haven't been APPROVED for the loan yet, but the dealership doesn't think we should have a problem getting a loan for about $14K give or take a couple thousand.

Either way, I can't wait to have a newer more reliable car then the one I have.

Update: We just got back from the dealership. We decided to stop in after work just to have a look-see. The 2002 Eclipse they have out there is a stick shift and I can only drive autmatics so I didn't test drive. Let me just say, I expected to walk out of the dealership with an offer of being financed for like $4,000 or something measley. But after he ran our credit and put in that we would put down a min. of 2K, we will more than likely be financed for about $14,000!!! What's more is that we plan to actually put down between 3K and 4K so that will be even better! Also, there are a couple of things on our credit report that we will be getting straightend out before Feb so that will make things even better for us. So the $14,000 is an estimate, it could go up or down based on what happens between then and now.

We can afford a payment of between $300-400 so we're doing well since a $14,000 car will cost us about $330 a month on a 5 year contract. Yay!

Now we are also looking into a Toyota Celica as a possible purchase. It seems the Celica has better ratings all together based on safety, handling, ect compared to the Eclipse. But I am in the middle of doing online research so we'll see.

Fast Car

Friends are so inspirational. I have three friends who have just bought new used cars. One of them just got the car of her dreams for a price that she can afford and it is also the newest car she has ever owned. It is a 2003 Pontiac Grand Am GT. It still has the new car smell even though it was used for a year!

Anyways, she got her car at a dealership just a few blocks from our house. She has convinced me that the dealership with work with us (we don't have great credit) and that if I want the car of my dreams, they will make sure to find me a used one that I can afford. So what is my dream car? A Mitsubishi Eclipse .

As it goes, my friend has already mentioned me and my husband's name to the salesman several times. So he already knows we are looking into getting a car and that I would LOVE to have an Eclipse. And lucky for him, I love the old models and the newer models. I am acutally impartial to the older body types since they look so nice! (I hated the new body types up until recently)

The plan is this: My husband and I didn't plan on buying a car until Feb 2004. The reason is that by that time we could put down about $3k towards a car using our tax refund and lots of overtime money. But if we could get by with buying a car now with little to no down and maybe a trade-in (we are thinking about it), then in Feb we could just apply that $3k towards the payments! Can you imagine the look on the bank's face when they open our Feb car bill and see a check for $3,000! *lol*

On Saturday, we plan on stopping by the dealership to see where we stand in regards to credit approval, how much we'll need to a down payment, and what year we can afford to buy. Right now, they have a 2002 in the lot, but I doubt we can afford that even if our credit allows us to get it. I am wanting a 1999 to 2001. The negative part of this whole thing is that my husband really thinks we should not focus on one type of car. He thinks we should be looking for a reliable car that is affordable and that it seems like with insurance, the Eclipse may be a bit much. He thinks with the money we would spend for a 4 year old Eclipse, we could afford a brand new car from another manufactorer. He is right, but this is probably my last chance to get into my dream car! If we plan on having kids (which we do) I won't be able to buy a sports car at that time. I will be looking into a mini-van (gag) or an SUV! So this is my small window of opportunity to get a car I have always wanted while we can.

We'll see. :)
